Ethical outreach using public permit records
A practical standard for respectful, lawful contractor prospecting from public permit information.
Public access does not erase privacy, safety, or reputation risk. PermitProspect minimizes personal fields because a contractor usually needs project scope, timing, and territory—not a resident’s name, phone number, signature, or exact coordinates.
Use a business purpose
Contact only when your service reasonably relates to the documented project. State who you are, how you found the public project signal, and why the service may be relevant. Never imply that you work for the issuing authority or know the outcome of an inspection.
Follow channel rules
Your organization is responsible for telemarketing, email, privacy, licensing, and do-not-call rules. PermitProspect does not enable automated SMS, dialing, or bulk email. A subscription provides intelligence and workflow, not permission to contact any person by any channel.
Respect boundaries
Honor opt-outs. Do not target people based on protected characteristics, code-enforcement distress, or sensitive property circumstances. Do not stalk, intimidate, repeatedly contact, or attempt to identify a suppressed resident from other datasets.
Report a record that appears unsafe, incorrect, or inconsistent with source terms through the corrections flow. A trustworthy system is willing to withhold a lead.
